The Monolith Odyssey
for mixed ensemble and electronics
Program Note
Inspired by the film, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Monolith Odyssey was composed in response to the notion of connecting antiquity to the modern era and beyond. This work refers specifically to the Renaissance period, during which the influential composer Monteverdi lived. The title refers to the immovable “monolith” figure and its journey across time and space. This is depicted musically by the changing sound schemes, blending with electronic and acoustic elements as they revolve around a fixed, “immovable” motive.
