“Harmonizing traditions, cultures, and disciplines, I aspire to weave a musical tapestry that transcends borders and resonates with the essence of my journey as an artist.”

Originally from Shenzhen, China, Yuxuan Lin (b.2003) is an NYC-based composer who is intensely interested in the possibilities of combining visual art, dance, and music, and enjoys any opportunity to collaborate. She consistently draws inspiration from neurological diversity among artists as a creative resource.

As a musician, Lin began playing the piano at age six and later studied both folk and classical guitar, as well as the Chinese traditional instruments erhu and hulusi. She began her composition studies with Reiko Füting following in the footsteps of her grandfather, a self-taught composer focusing on Chinese folk music. Lin is the winner of the 2024 Verdehr Trio Composition Commission Prize, and has received recognition from prominent ensembles and organizations such as Salastina, SOLI Chamber Ensemble, and ASCAP. Her music has been published in the music collection entitled New Voices in Art Song-2023 by North Star Music LLC, and has been performed at various venues such as the Tokyo to New York: 'Moments in This Time' Benefit Concert for Covid-19 Musicians Relief, La Schola Cantorum in Paris, Yellow

Barn in Putney, VT, and The Juilliard School, among others. Lin has been fortunate to attend composition programs including the European American Musical Alliance (EAMA), Yellow Barn Young Artists Program, Atlantic Music Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival, and Lake George Music Festival. She also participated in Salastina’s Sounds Promising Young Artist Program, through which she worked with composer Derrick Skye. Lin has had the privilege to learn from renowned composers such as Derek Bermel, Robert Beaser, David Ludwig, George Tsontakis, Alyssa Weinberg, Christopher Dobrian, Sergi Casanelles, Eric Nathan, Stephen Coxe, Stephen Cabell, Ana Sokolovic, Matthew Quayle, and many more.

As an avid composer for visual media, Lin continuously pursues opportunities to collaborate with visual artists and directors. She has been partnered with student directors at the London Film School on numerous projects. Lin is currently studying under Melinda Wagner and Nina C. Young at The Juilliard School where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in composition.
